5 Essential Tips to Having the Best Trade Show Experience

November 16, 2015

It’s no secret that attending a trade show can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time attending one. There is so much going on at one time and so much to see. So, how can you ensure you have the best trade show experience possible? Follow these five essential tips:

Research Vendors Beforehand

Before attending the show, make sure you take a look at the event’s website and see what vendors will be attending. By doing your research, you will know for sure who’s booth you will definitely want to stop by and visit. If a vendor you’re interested in isn’t attending, you won’t spend most of your time looking for them at the show.

Register for the Show Early

Before the event even begins, make sure that you register early. Registering for the show early not only guarantees that you will be able to get in, but often allows for ample savings and advanced information. So, be sure you register for the show as soon as it is made available by the organization to receive the most benefit from the pre-tradeshow experience.

Take a Map So You Don’t Get Lost

When you first enter the trade show, always pick up a map of the layout. It’s easy to lose your way when moving from one booth to the next. Having a map will always allow you to know where you are at all times, what booths you are near, and the locations of important places like:

  • Bathrooms
  • Food courts
  • Information desks

Wear Comfortable Shoes

It’s a given that you will be on your feet for long periods of time when at a trade show. So arguably, the most important rule is to be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Wearing the wrong shoes can cause extreme discomfort and develop blisters, which will make walking around the show unbearable.

Bring a Backpack to Prevent Back and Shoulder Pain

Most shows have a bag to give you as you enter the show, but it’s always a good idea to bring your own. That way, you can have a safe place to store any documents or freebies you get without overburdening yourself. A backpack is the best choice because it evenly distributes the weight on your back versus a shoulder bag, which could cause some back and shoulder pain after while of walking around. When wearing a backpack, make sure that it’s secure on your back and not slung over one shoulder. Doing so defeats the purpose of preventing back and shoulder pain.
