Winter Wellness Ideas For The Workplace

December 14, 2017

Winter can take its toll on the health and wellbeing of employees. With that in mind, it is essential that you encourage a healthy lifestyle to promote winter wellness in the workplace:

Keep Hand Sanitizer Handy

With everyone is close quarters, winter is a prime time for cold and flu viruses to run wild. With that in mind, keep hand sanitizer handy in convenient locations like on the desks of employees on the wall in a popular area like the break room.

In addition, have a hand washing policy in place to help prevent the spread of germs and improve health.

Encourage Use Of The In-House Gym

If your workplace has an in-house gym, encourage employees to use it. Holding a small contest to encourage motivation and participation is a great way to reward employees for using the gym and get them moving during the day.

If you do not have an in-house gym, arrange a partnership with a local gym to offer employee discounts or host a company run/walk for a good cause.

Don’t Forget Mental Health

Winter can be dreary with the sun going down so early and the grey skies. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) affects thousands of people across the United States and symptoms include:

  • Feelings of sluggishness or agitation
  • Having difficulty concentrating
  • Low energy
  • Difficulty sleeping

As such, it is essential that you also focus on the mental health of your employees. Hosting small, fun events, and providing a gym and mental health services is a good way to help battle the blues and manage the mental and emotional health of employees.

Provide Healthy Snacks

Provide healthy snacks to your employees, especially with all of the holiday parties going on this time of year. Not only will snacks satisfy those 3 o’clock cravings, but encourage employees to eat healthier.

If you are hosting a holiday work party, provide healthy options while keeping the dietary restrictions of employees in mind. That way, everyone can enjoy the holidays.
