Making Reasonable Goals for Your Corporate Wellness Program

June 1, 2016

As your company starts its new corporate wellness program, you will need to create goals for the company and its employees to reach. While a program’s goals will differ from company to company, all must know what is considered unreasonable and reasonable:

What is Considered a Reasonable Goal?

A corporate wellness program should be designed with reasonable goals in mind for your company and employees in both the long and short term. Reasonable goals for your corporate wellness program should include:

Having an in-house fitness center can help your company reach its fitness and wellness goals. Just make sure that in setting these goals, you give them enough time to work and don’t expect immediate results.

When a Goal Becomes Unreasonable

While you may begin your corporate wellness program with the above goals, they can get out of hand and turn into unreasonable ones if not implemented correctly. If the goals are unreasonable, employees will not want to participate in the program.

For example, if employees are expected to meet a certain health and fitness goal in a short amount of time, then the reasonable goal of improving their health becomes unreasonable.

This goal would further be considered unreasonable if companies expect employees with disabilities and chronic health problems to meet the same fitness and health requirements as employees who can easily meet the standard. Instead, provide these employees with reasonable alternatives so they can meet the criteria.

A Corporate Wellness Expert Can Help

Hiring a corporate wellness expert can help you determine reasonable goals for your corporate wellness program and make sure that you stay on track. They will also help advice management and employees about best fitness practices.
