Tips for Trainers: 4 Creative Ways to Find New Fitness Clients

March 21, 2016

Whether you are a personal trainer employed at a health club or pursue personal training on your own, finding clients can be challenging. Thankfully, there are many creative ways to go about growing your current client base:

Converse with Existing Members

If you are working at a health club, take advantage of the fitness floor. Walk around, introduce yourself and start conversations with current members. By building a relationship with members, you will be able to get to know them personally and offer information about the services you can offer. Be careful to not engage in conversation and advertise yourself too frequently. Doing so can distract members from their workouts, and blatantly advertising yourself may become bothersome.

Send Emails to Current & Potential Clients

If you are associated with a health club, odds are that the club has information about existing and previous members, including email addresses. Utilize this information and create and send out an email that shows potential clients what you have to offer. Make the emails creative and interesting so that they will grab the attention of the readers and hopefully secure a follow up regarding the information. Get your gym’s permission to access client information. If you access the information without permission, you can be reported for spam and breaking email marketing laws. Also give clients the option to unsubscribe or “opt out” of your emails.

Create a YouTube Channel

Whether you provide your services at local fitness center or provide these services on your own, creating your own fitness YouTube channel can be extremely beneficial. Show off your expertise by creating and uploading your very own fitness videos designed to help others achieve their fitness goals. You can then share these videos on your social media sites. If you work at a local fitness center, ask your center to share your videos on their social sites as well to boost members to sign up.

Create Physical Advertisements

Along with creating email lists, create printed material too. Advertisements such as posters, flyers, and brochures are easy to post or hand out to members at your local fitness center and other locations around your area. Make sure you’re posting legally and get permission from business owners. In doing so, you’ll be seen as respectful and professional.
